This adorable face from our homepage is Dudley.  Dudley arrived at the Santa Clara – Ivins Animal Shelter in 2014 as a ten-month-old puppy and it soon became apparent that he suffered from neurological impairments.  These impairments caused a variety of issues.  Walking him was an adventure as he grabbed the leash with his mouth, turned in circles and stumbled along.  Potty training was beyond his comprehension.  INKAS stepped in to provide the funding for him to receive rehabilitation at a local pet wellness center and one of the INKAS directors volunteered to transport him to his weekly sessions and practice the retraining exercises with him.  While progress was slow, Dudley soon stole everyone’s heart with his playful and affectionate manner.  Then in March of 2015 a wonderful family looking to add a dog to their home decided that, in spite of his challenges, Dudley was the one.  He lived a full and happy life with them until their circumstances changed and they were forced to return him to the shelter in August of 2017.

Life back at the shelter was stressful for Dudley and with no potential adopters in sight the search began to find an animal rescue organization able to take him.  In December of 2017 Ruff Patch Rescue answered the call and placed him in one of their foster homes.  There it was discovered that in addition to his neurological impairments, Dudley suffered from allergies that necessitated him having prescription food, regular bathing with a specialty shampoo and allergy injections.  INKAS has continued to support Dudley by assisting with these monthly expenses.  

Here is Dudley today.  He continues to be the same lovable dog with the lopsided walk who turns in circles and carries his leash in his mouth that we all fell in love with many years ago.  Thank you Ruff Patch Rescue for making it possible for him to have a wonderful life!

Merry Christmas 2025

 

 

As it has become our tradition, members of INKAS became Santa’s helpers in December bringing holiday cheer to the Santa Clara – Ivins Animal Shelter.  Stockings stuffed with toys and treats were delivered to all of the dogs and cats.  The dogs were so excited for the attention and were interested in the stockings hanging on their kennel doors.  Of course, the curious cats couldn’t wait to explore their stockings and gifts inside.   Other larger gifts such as scratching pads and food for the cats and kittens along with assorted gifts for the dogs, were placed under the Christmas tree in the shelter’s lobby.

The INKAS team also presented Christmas monetary gifts to the Washington County animal rescue organizations.  It is their important work that saves the lives of animals and makes it possible for no-kill shelters to have long-term animals placed in loving homes.

 

Kittens!!!

Nothing cuter than a happy, healthy kitten.  Every kitten season INKAS participates in providing kitten replacement milk, dry kitten food and cat litter. Some kittens require medical attention and/or medication which is also funded by INKAS. 

INKAS to the “RESCUE”

One More Chance Cat Rescue is a wonderful organization that not only acts as a rescue for domestic cats (many with special needs) they also trap, spay/neuter and release feral cats.  They always go above and beyond to help these poor babies no matter the circumstances.  Since they were in need of new items for their “Catterie”  INKAS bought and delivered 3 new cat trees. As you can see, they love them!

 

Meet Sammie

Sammie is a three year old border collie mix who was not doing well in the shelter environment.  She developed some bad habits and was considered unadoptable.  INKAS was able to have her placed at PAWS, a local animal rescue, and brought in a dog trainer to work with Sammie.  Our president volunteered twice a week training Sammie in her new behaviors.  She progressed rapidly and is now available for adoption.  It will be a lucky family that takes home this sweet girl!

UPDATE:  INKAS is thrilled to say that Sammie has found the forever home that gives her everything she needs and deserves.  She goes to work with her mom every day and is being trained to be a therapy dog.

Sammie Gives Back

Because of the ongoing generosity of our donors when INKAS received a request from PAWS, a local non-profit animal rescue organization, to help them as they upgraded and improved their dog rescue area, we were able to respond.  Not only did INKAS buy new kennels but we were able to purchase all that were needed.  In thanks to INKAS, PAWS placed a plaque on the kennels honoring Sammie.

Meet Penny

Beautiful Penny is a ten year old purebred dachshund.  Sadly, when her elderly owners needed to move to a long-term nursing care facility, Penny had to be surrendered to the shelter.  Shelter staff quickly recognized that the condition of her teeth and gums was so bad that it could easily impact her overall health.  INKAS stepped in and took Penny for a dental appointment with a local veterinarian.  He did a much needed cleaning and extracted eleven teeth.  Penny now has a healthy mouth and no problem eating.  She has been adopted by a loving family who will keep her remaining teeth healthy and her breath fresh by brushing her teeth twice weekly!
